Week One, Day One

Week One, Day One
Time With God

“But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who
is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you” (Matthew 6:6).
Jesus didn’t mean that we must go into a room and shut the door. He did not do that when He prayed. But He did find ways to be alone with God, and that’s what He is telling us to do today. To know God personally, we must spend time alone with Him every day, time that is devoted to Him and free of distractions. Jesus said when we pray, not if. And we know He meant every day because in the model prayer that follows, we’re told to ask “this day” for our “daily” bread. In this model prayer He provides a pattern for our daily prayer lives. Time alone with God is essential for everything else Jesus taught about prayer. Fortunately for most of us, Jesus did not say how much time we should spend every day, just consistent time. It is amazing what God can and will do if we’ll devote a few minutes to Him every morning. Why do you think it would be important to spend time alone with God every day? Pause and listen... Perhaps you should ask Him what He thinks. Pray about it now and listen…

What does my heart sense God is saying to me? Pause and listen…

My prayer response:
I've prouded myself on being independent and self-sufficient for many years. the truth is, the older i get, the more i begin to understand that i'm not. in fact, the more i try to keep control of things, the more they tend to fall apart. we're not meant to be in control or to take the burden of things we cannot handle. my heart and whole entity yearns to be closer to him now, to be restored and redeemed in his name. our father wants nothing more from us other than to be closer, to love and protect us from all worldly matters that bring weight to our hearts. my father loves and wants desperately to reach out to us, and i see that in everything i do now... he wants me just as bad as i need him. My God is a living God, and he's here to save us from ourselves, and to live eternally through him.

"I don’t wanna go through the motions
I don’t wanna go one more day
Without Your all consuming passion inside of me
I don’t wanna spend my whole life asking
What if I had given everything?
Instead of going through the motions"
